The Royal wedding cars and carriages
Miss Middleton and Prince William will travel separately to the wedding service using State Cars from the Royal Mews.
Miss Middleton will travel in a Rolls Royce Phantom VI, accompanied by her father. The Rolls Royce was presented to The Queen in 1978 for her Silver Jubilee by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Prince William will travel in a Bentley, accompanied by Prince Harry. The State Bentleys have been uniquely designed enabling greater use to be made of the vehicle’s interior space. The Bentleys are 6.22 metres long and, at 3.84 meters, their wheelbase is 1.3 metres longer than that of an average family sized saloon.
Bentley Mulsanne
Building a Bentley isn’t the work of a moment. While most modern mass-produced cars fire out of the factory gates every few seconds, these bespoke British machines can take months of painstaking construction.
This handcrafted care and attention is part of the brand’s appeal – and has kept it going through 92 years of often turbulent history. It’s also the reason we’re at Bentley’s home in Crewe, Cheshire. We want to get under the marque’s skin, and witness the journey its cars undertake – from bare metal panels to a fully completed four-wheel masterpiece.
But before we get started on the production line, there’s the small matter of the 168-mile trip from Auto Express’ London office. We’ve planned a couple of stops along the way that help tell the firm’s story – from its humble 1919 beginnings to its current position as maker of some of the world’s most luxurious cars. Fortunately, we’ve got the ideal companion for the journey: a Bentley Mulsanne.
Launch of the McLaren MP4-12C in Cape Town
The McLaren M4-12c
1992 – A big year for many big corporates like Microsoft who release their update to Windows 3.0; Prince Charles and Princess Diana publicly announced their separation and the world received the fastest ever no expenses spared mad super car in the form of the McLaren F1.
Growing up, everything was about wheels, movement and power! Every TV game owned was a racing game, and the love for going as fast as possible was yet just another fun filled challenge amongst friends on skateboards and BMX’s. The untouchable McLaren F1 heightened all this. I remember when McLaren launched the F1 it was the talk amongst all my friends who shared the same passion, “The Formula 1 Road Car” we called it, and with no internet and online searching, the only way to view this master piece was in the latest Car Magazines and limited TV Coverage. An ultra exclusive and expensive supercar for only the purest of the pure wealthy driving enthusiasts.
