Barrichello confirms Indycar move for 2012

Rubens Barrichello has finally confirmed reports he will race in America’s premier open wheeler Indycar series in 2012.

After 19 consecutive seasons in formula one, the 39-year-old Brazilian makes the switch with the backing of the sponsor BMC Brasil Maquinas.

PRE RACE
The first Brazilian F1 Grand Prix (that was included in the official F1 calendar) was held at the Interlagos (Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace) in 1973. The Grand Prix initially alternated between this track and Rio de Janeiro (Jacarepague). From 1990 onwards the race has been held at Interlagos. The Brazilian Grand Prix has delivered some classic races over the years: often deciding championships. The Interlagos circuit remains relatively unchanged and is a real challenge for the drivers. The translation of “Interlagos” is “between the lakes”.

Race day dawns at the Yas Marina circuit – it is going to be a perfect, sunny and warm day. Fast forward a few hours, and the build-up to this twilight race is well underway. Hordes of fans have made their way to the track. Many are enjoying pre-race sundowners as the glowing orb of the sun descends into the late afternoon. All around, from the grand stands, to the Yas Hotel, to the paddock area, to the decks of the luxury motor yachts easing against their moorings in the marina, to whatever vantage point is available: there is an electric atmosphere of excitement building. The setting is postcard perfect; from the track, to the stunning architectural features of the surrounding buildings, to the marina: what an atmosphere!

It’s time to go racing… This is Formula 1!

The Korea International Circuit at Yeongam was designed by Herman Tilke, and the inaugural Korean Formula 1 Grand Prix was held here in 2010. Yeongam is located in South Jeolla, 400km’s south of the capital city of Seoul, near the port of Mokpo. South Korea is located very close to Japan, so at least the teams didn’t have to travel that far for this, the second of 2 back-to-back races.
