It’s an ambitious, alternatively fuelled adventure around the world

It all started way way back in February 1908. At the time, six automobiles lined up in New York’s Times Square and had intentions of racing from New York to Paris. This was billed as the Great Automobile Race. The lead car for a good portion of the race was the now famous 1907 Thomas Flyer, Model 35, built in Buffalo, NY. The car had some 70hp coming from a stock four cylinder engine, but saddled with an extra large fuel tank, spare tires and running boards.

Mad Max Interceptor revived for upcoming new film

Mad Max is back. And Ford Australia wants in on the action.

Ford ‘Down Under’, partnering with local car mag Top Gear Australia, has devised these two new Mad Max Interceptor vehicles which will be featured in the April issue of the magazine.

The design of the vehicles was overseen by Ford’s design director for Asia, Pacific and Australia, Chris Svensson. The two concepts seen here, by designers Nima Nourian and Simon Brook, will compete in a survey of Top Gear readers to see which one will continue on in the production process.

The Ford GT Hybrid

It’s take three for the Ford GT! Auto Express has learned that the blue oval is readying an all-new mid-engined supercar – and it’s set to feature hybrid power.

The model follows on from the original Sixties GT40, as well as the GT, built between 2005 and 2006. It will take aim at Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren by using the most advanced technology available to deliver massive straight-line performance. And our exclusive images predict how the Detroit missile is shaping up.

In a bid to distance the new model from the 2005 GT, of which only 100 examples reached Europe, there will be a new design direction. While the GT used plenty of styling cues from the original GT40 racer of the Sixties, the latest interpretation is likely to forego the retro body panels and get a sharper, more modern look.
