Geneva 2011: Bertone Jaguar B99 concept

car_photo_428563_25

The Bertone Jaguar B99 is one of the stars of the 2011 Geneva motor show. Designed as a concept for a compact Jag (at 4.5m long it’s comparable with a BMW 3-series), it boasts a pretty muscular body, one which combines the looks of a classic XJ saloon with more futuristic influences, such as the lights which echo front and rear (dark red car, right).

The body is constructed with handmade aluminium panels, while the powertrain is hybrid, developed by the firm’s renewable energy research arm, Bertone Energy. There’s an engine for range extension purposes while two electric motors drive the rear wheels. Each one boasts 201bhp, while the car’s maximum output with the engine factored in is a stonking 570bhp, over 60bhp more than Jaguar’s much bigger, supercharged V8-powered XJ Supersports.

Jag C-X75 concept set for build?

These days, when a concept car is shown, it’s usually a given that the production car is not too far off.

So it came as a little surprise when Jaguar said it was planning production feasibility studies for its mid-engined
concept shown at the recent Paris auto show.

Automotive News reports that two production levels are under consideration. Each will be independently explored because they each requires different production models. The high-volume model would rely on more automation (with its resultant higher tooling costs), while the low-volume model would require more hand assembly.

Jet-engined four-wheel-drive Jaguar C-X75 at the Paris Motor Show

Jaguar C-X75 Concept1

Bet you weren’t expecting this, right? Jaguar has stolen the Paris motor show with a sensational JET-ENGINED supercar concept. That’s right, JET-ENGINED.

The Jaguar C-X75 uses four electric motors – one at each wheel – powered by Lithium-ion batteries, each producing 195bhp, giving a maximum 780bhp and a heart-busting 1,180lb ft of pulling power.
The purely electric mode gives SuperJag a range of just 68 miles, so engineers have fitted a pair of micro gas-turbines which spin to 80,000rpm and weigh 35kg each, to recharge the batteries (or supplement them), extending the range to a possible 560 miles.
