After reinventing the hot hatch as a V6 nearly 20 years ago, Volkswagen has ditched the concept and returned to its four pot roots. But is the new 2010 VW Golf R different enough from a GTi to justify a £30k price?

So what was wrong with the old VW Golf R32?

Not much, at least in terms of the way it drove. The 247bhp V6 made the right noises and felt suitably swifter than the contemporary GTI. It’s all to do with CO2.

It’s an ambitious, alternatively fuelled adventure around the world

It all started way way back in February 1908. At the time, six automobiles lined up in New York’s Times Square and had intentions of racing from New York to Paris. This was billed as the Great Automobile Race. The lead car for a good portion of the race was the now famous 1907 Thomas Flyer, Model 35, built in Buffalo, NY. The car had some 70hp coming from a stock four cylinder engine, but saddled with an extra large fuel tank, spare tires and running boards.

2012 Volkswagen Beetle revealed

Next-generation Beetle drops the ‘New’ from its name but comes with a design update meant to keep the retro-styled model relevant

This is the next-generation 2012 VW Beetle, which has now dropped the capitalized word ‘New’ from its name.

The next Beetle model will be making its official debut soon at the Auto Shanghai show and then later at the New York auto show this week.

2012 Volkswagen Beetle to be unveiled on April 18th

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle has been spied undisguised and given away by Oprah, but the company has just announced plans to unveil the model on April 18th.

In a star studded event, spanning three continents, Volkswagen will introduce the Beetle in Shanghai, Berlin and New York City. To maximize exposure, the German brand has teamed up with MTV to have The Black Eyed Peas perform in New York and 2manydjs in Berlin.

As for the car itself, the 2012 Beetle will have Ragster-inspired styling with a dual exhaust system and 19-inch alloy wheels. While the exterior design will be relatively familiar, the interior will be dramatically improved thanks to higher quality materials, an upgraded infotainment system, and additional passenger room.

VW wants to take Bulli Microbus to production

VW wants to take the Bulli Microbus Concept it premiered at the Geneva show last week to production.

According to Autocar, VW’s research and development chief Ulrich Hackenberg says that the Microbus is based on the MDS [Modular Design System] platform and will likely be made at VW’s Pueblo plant in Mexico.
