Car to compete against Audi and Mercedes in the DTM

German magazine Auto Bild managed to catch the BMW M3 DTM in action while testing. The car was spotted racing around the the Oschersleben race circuit, a full week before its scheduled unveiling at BMW World in Munich.

After the car was shown on the company’s test track to BMW staff earlier this week, BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt said, “This marks yet another step towards our first race in 2012. However, many more steps have yet to follow.”

A BMW M3 pickup has been spotted doing hot laps at the world famous Nürburgring racetrack. Yes, this is the same V-8-powered BMW M3 that is renowned as one of the world’s hottest, sportiest and all around lust-worthy German sports machines. And no, this isn’t an early April Fools joke—although we’re still kind of hoping it is.

Six BMW M3s to take on Audi and Mercedes in 2012 DTM

BMW is headed back to DTM racing with the BMW M3 DTM and has announced the three teams which will be taking two M3s each into the 2012 season.

BMW Motorsport won’t be racing the car themselves, but instead will be partnering with BMW Team RBM, BMW Team Schnitzer and Reinhold Motorsport GmbH. BMW Motorsport has worked with the RBM and Schnitzer teams in the past and has welcomed newcomer Reinhold Motorsport into the fold. Each team will race two M3 DTMs.

BMW’s new M performance exhaust [video]

BMW has announced a new M Performance exhaust system which will be available as an after-market accessory for the M3 range.

The new sport exhaust system is made of a new heat-resistant material called Inconel, a chrome-nickel alloy. The new system reduces back-pressure inside the exhaust resulting in a new sound which can be heard in many rpm incarnations in the video.
