Cape Town Formula 1 Track – picking up speed?

Formula 1 Track Cape Town 2012

London – South Africa could return to the Formula 1 calendar “within two years” as Bernie Ecclestone hints that a Cape Town GP is “weeks away” from getting the green light… at least from him.

Wheels24 reported earlier in 2011 that Formula 1 boss Ecclestone hinted at a South African Grand Prix and that a proposed Cape Town circuit was outlined.

Lamborghini Gallardo Crash Cape Town South Africa

It seems the first big rains in Cape Town mixed with some summer oil on the roads has claimed a Lamborghini Murciélago which ended up on its roof in a accident this morning on De Wall Drive. We hope that everyone is OK, and that our readers will take it easy this Easter Holidays in this cold winter weather!

Thundering around the Cape in an AC Cobra – old school is still COOL!

NU5V2796

A couple of days ago I was given a Cobra from Classic Wheels. Naturally I was excited as I hadn’t driven one before. Growing up the Cobra has always been an iconic symbol to me and I am sure all motoring enthusiasts alike.

The pin-up poster car has graced us worldwide since the 50’s with it’s instantly classic lines and typical American muscle car appeal.

It took some time to adjust to the old school instruments and driving style, but this was quickly was mastered and immediately I was hooked. So, as any petrol head with a convertible would do, I headed out to Cape Point to see what all this hype was about. This particular model is a Shamrock made here in South Africa. The business end sports a 5,7Lt Chevy V8 fitted with Edlebrock Headers and a flat pan filter. Noisy is what some would call this car…but not me; this is pure unadulterated classic American V8 sound. It’s addictive to the point that I never even turned the radio on and found myself leaning over the door: ears to the floor to grab an extra dose of the intoxicating exhaust note.

The South African Supercar…the Zagato is nearly here!

IMG_3089

It looks like a futuristic Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe, that’s not a bad place to start since these iconic Cobra’s have ruled many a race track and made even more modern supercars scamper away with their tails behind their legs.

We are told by Mike Bruce that this beauty will be sold with exclusive rights by Investment Cars in SA. The vehicle will be manufactured in the armpit of South Africa, P.E and will be available as early as June/July this year.

The BMW 1 Series M: Pure M or not?

bmw-1-series-m-coupe-1

I’ll say it now, and I’ll say it again, the E46 M3 will always be my favourite M car. It just had all the elements which make an M car, well, an M car. The styling was understated to most, but dramatic to the trained eye. The interior had subtle differences to the standard E46s, making it feel special. The handling was precise, balanced, poised. But the winning part of this car was the engine. And this engine (S54) was responsible for everything else that makes an M car special.

The S54 was a high-revving (8000RPM), naturally aspirated, 3.2L in-line 6, producing 252kw at 7900RPM and 365nm at 4600RPM. This engine gave the E46 M3 the sound of an M car, the response of an M car, and the power delivery of an M car. It had personality, character. Few will contest that it is BMW’s finest 6 cylinder to date, winning awards for 6 years straight. This M3 was not without its flaws though. It understeered a bit too much, and the brakes weren’t quite what they needed to be in terms of longevity. But the fundamentals of this car were spot on, and for that reason I will always love it.

2012 Mercedes C63 AMG facelift leaked

1816305429550636587

Someone in Germany should check the plumbing as the 2012 Mercedes C63 AMG has been leaked for a second time.

In the latest batch of photos, you can see the updated model features an aggressive front fascia, a revised grille, new headlights and LED fog lights. Out back, changes are relatively minor but include a reshaped bumper and revised tail lights.

No interior pictures were released, but the first leak showed the cabin will receive the same updates as the standard model. However, to distinguish the high-performance variant, there are unique touches such as heavy-bolstered sport seats, an AMG steering wheel and piano black trim on the center console.

Insane Local Jeep Wrangler STR8

01

It’s very common to see pimped out Jeep Wranglers on a weekly basis barreling down our roads. Take a trip down to your local 4×4 hangout and it’s no wonder why, they really do out perform their price tag competitors on the dunes, in the mud and bundu bashing. Take a closer look and you will see all kinds of aftermarket extra are fitted. Check out Jeep Maniacs for these parts and fitment at http://www.maniacmanufacturing.com/

Now this blog is about road and racing motor vehicles, but one cant but help take an interest in such an insane modification as this. Squeezing a 6,1lt Hemi V8 from the Chrysler 300C STR8 into a Jeep must have been no small task, but the grin factor has to be huge when planting the loud pedal! When you consider that the motor standard kicks out 317kw and 570nm, many a fast car at the lights will catch a big wake up…add raised some raised suspension, cruise to the dunes and you basically have a big quad bike!  Matt black vinyl for a menacing presence, a couple ‘extras’ and you have the meanest Jeep in town. Sweet!

Formula 1 Track in Cape Town?

16690

It was only a few months ago that we heard Durban’s announcement of it’s intended grand prix circuit and a return to the F1 calendar. That wasn’t very long after a similar announcement about a Cape Town city grand prix, which itself came hot on the heels of a lot of hot air about Kyalami returning South Africa to the grand prix calendar, which itself came after the Cape Town Airport GP track promise.

Now it seems there’s a fresh move afoot for a Cape grand prix as Monday’s Cape Argus reported that the Cape Town Grand Prix Bid Company is one of three different organisations chasing for Cape Town to host a Grand Prix! The latest idea is the brainwave of Capetonian Igshaan Amlay that follows ‘a 12-year research and development phase’ and which its purveyor hopes to present to F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone in the coming weeks.

Lambo limo’s green light

car_photo_417952_25

Move over, Aston Rapide – the Lamborghini limo is on the way!

The Italians’ fast, edgy Estoque is back on the cards after senior executives at owner Audi threw their support behind the four-door supercar last week.
Lambo first revealed the
model at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, before putting it on the back burner. But now, senior sources at the German marque have stated that the Estoque is exactly what Lamborghini needs to more than double sales, and gain financial independence.

But Audi has done more than simply comment on the Estoque. By unofficially confirming plans
for its own A9 limo-coupé, it has
also given Lamborghini the
perfect production chassis.
