CEO Stephean Winkelmann says it wants a more practical model that will help grow sales of the Italian supercar maker.

Barred! No road for SuperLambo
Bugatt’s Veyron has been known as the King of the Supercars for a decade or more and that got right up the noses of makers of similar outrageous machines – but now, it seems, Lamborghini is top of the heap.
It nose-unpicking tool: the Sesto Elemento which, at about R19.5-million, is R1.87-million MORE EXPENSIVE than the Veyron but also, importantly, 850kg LIGHTER and, basically, should be able to blow its German rival right into the daisies. Should it ever escape from the track and get out on the road, that is…
SA Review: Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 – By Hannes Oosthuizen
A few years ago I had the opportunity to drive Lamborghini’s Murciélago and Gallardo models back-to-back. That experience, joyous as it was, also served to highlight the predicament most “full-fat” supercars still find themselves in – smaller, lighter and more high-tech rivals, sometimes from within their own stables, are nearly as fast, far easier to drive, and more practical. It was like that with the Murciélago… The smaller, cheaper Gallardo’s performance may appear less impressive compared with its bigger brother on paper, but in real life, on the road, the Gallardo’s performance potential was far more easily accessible. The Murciélago, by comparison, was exactly as the more extreme supercars have always been – fearsomely fast but unpolished.
Lamborghini Murciélago Crash on De Waal Drive Cape Town
Tuesday 26th April 2011, Not a great view for Super Car lovers!
It seems the first big rains in Cape Town mixed with some summer oil on the roads has claimed a Lamborghini Murciélago which ended up on its roof in a accident this morning on De Wall Drive. We hope that everyone is OK, and that our readers will take it easy this Easter Holidays in this cold winter weather!
Lamborghini LP700-4 thunders through the American desert for commercial [video]
Essentially a behind the scenes look at an upcoming promotional video/commercial, the clip shows the Murcielago successor storming across the Californian desert.
The Aventador features a 6.5-liter V12 engine that develops an impressive 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft) of torque. It is paired to a seven-speed transmission, which enables the 1575 kg (3,472 pounds) supercar to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).
New Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 supercar official pictures
Meet the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, the first all-new Lambo production car in eight years. It replaces the much-loved Murcielago, which has been on sale since 2001. The new Lamborghini gets its full unveiling at the 2011 Geneva motor show.
And while the Aventador’s styling is a clean evolution rather than a striking revolution, the rest of the car is box-fresh. The engine, gearbox and carbonfibre chassis are all brand new.
The New Lambo specs are leaked
Lamborghini fans have been treated to quite a week so far. A few days ago, images of a barely camouflaged prototype for the Murcielago successor were seen and now more information for that vehicle has emerged, in the form of the official dealer order guide for the LP700-4.
This order guide plenty of specifications of the upcoming Lamborghini, including the highly anticipated performance specs. The LP700-4 will weigh in at 1575kg, 230kg lighter than the Murcielago LP640-4. In addition to being lighter in packs an extra 45kW. As such the LP700-4 can go from 0-100km/h in an astonishing 2.9 seconds, half a second faster than the outgoing model. The top speed has also been increased to 350km/h meaning this car can get you in to some serious trouble with the law.
The “New Lambo” Raging Bull
We have been following the progress of the new Lamborghini for months now, each new detail and every new spy picture. Now the most revealing spy picture has surfaced on the Internet and it looks like this is going to be one stunning car.
Previous spy pictures have seen the new Lambo wearing black cladding but in this new picture, the prototype has much less camouflage. Thanks to this, we can get a much better idea of what has been lying beneath all that camo.
The styling of the new Raging Bull draws a lot of its inspiration from the ultra-exclusive Reventon, which is certainly a very good thing indeed. One can also see a more angular evolution of the Murcielago’s design present in the new car.
Lambo limo’s green light
Move over, Aston Rapide – the Lamborghini limo is on the way!
The Italians’ fast, edgy Estoque is back on the cards after senior executives at owner Audi threw their support behind the four-door supercar last week.
Lambo first revealed the
model at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, before putting it on the back burner. But now, senior sources at the German marque have stated that the Estoque is exactly what Lamborghini needs to more than double sales, and gain financial independence.
But Audi has done more than simply comment on the Estoque. By unofficially confirming plans for its own A9 limo-coupé, it has also given Lamborghini the perfect production chassis.
Gallardo meets Reventon in a radical Paris concept
More than 300 kg lighter than a Gallardo Superleggera, powered by a screaming 419 kW V10 engine and possessed of a radical design hewn from advanced carbon-fibre reinforced plastic technology; the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is a glimpse into the Sant’Agata Bolognese firm’s radical future.
A quick glance will fool the uninformed into believing that Lamborghini’s latest concept is the fighter jet-inspired and ultra-rare Reventon hypercar, and while the matte finishing and sharp lines might add to that belief, the Sesto-Elemento is more Gallardo overall.
The extensive use of carbon-fibre in the Sesto Elemento (Italian for sixth element) in the monocoque structure, and carbon-fibre reinforced plastic for everything else (even the rims, prop shaft and suspension components have been fashioned from the woven material) means that Sant’Agata’s latest raging bull tips the scales at 999 kg. The triangular design elements are not just for show either – as the numerous edges and recesses help achieve excellent aerodynamic properties as well as cooling air to various vents and hidden radiators.
